This is an original 1936 halftone print of a worker pushing a giant soap block through piano wire to cut it into slabs. The slabs could then be cut into bars, and then into cakes.

The Colgate-Palmolive-Peet Company is currently known as Colgate-Palmolive, and markets a variety of household materials, including soaps, toothpaste, detergents, and dog food. Some of their brand names include Palmolive, Irish Spring, Murphy Oil Soap, Softsoap, and Tom’s of Maine as well as dozens of others.
